God Knows You By Name

Whatsoever series:

This morning I read an article that estimated that for the duration of mankind, from the beginning until current day, there have been 90 to 110 billion people on the planet. Billion!! If I count the number of people in my family, friend, church, neighbor, co-worker, and simple acquaintances circles, I might have a thousand. How about you? 500? 1,000? 2,000? More…

Recall their faces and their names. With those come memories of their “person.” Those things that make them their own unique person. Ponder for a moment what it would be to KNOW by name every individual that has ever lived on the planet or ever will live on the planet! No person could do that. But, God does. Our Lord God knows who you are. By name. By every hair on your head. By every tear that falls. You are known before you are born. Our Lord knows you by name.

When you feel afraid, uncertain, or insecure in your hope, you are not alone. You are not invisible or insignificant. Our Lord God knows who you are. By name. By every hair on your head. By every tear that falls. You are known before you are born.  Our Lord knows you by name.

  • Luke 12:6-7 (ESV) Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God. Why, even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.
  • Psalm 8:3-4 (ESV) When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?
  • Psalm 139:13-16 (ESV) For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.

Make space in your day. Quiet your thoughts. Whatever the rambling of anxiety may be, it’s a product of Satan’s illusion that destroys your joy by inserting doubt in the future. Renew your mind and fill it with truth! God is in control. He knows who you are. He knows the plans he has made for you.

Remember the Lord’s promises. His truth says who you are. Satan would have you believe that you are your addiction, that you are your weakness. Satan lies to you about your identity. God’s Word says you are a child of the King, bought by the blood of Jesus, redeemed to Him to live and love him for eternity, justified, forgiven, equipped with the fruit of the Spirit to love God and to love people…you are promised! You are valued! You are loved! These are God’s promises.

Whatsoever is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, of good report, virtuous, praiseworthy…think on these! Renew your mind daily with them and rest in God’s promises for your life and the life of your student. God has promises for them, too. Believe it. Rest in it. God knows you by name. It’s personal. It’s a promise.
