Fireworks

Mustard Seed Chronicles: Story Time with LU Grandma

“May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.” Psalm 19:14 NLT

Fireworks in the sky are so beautiful to see, and every year creators come up with all kinds of new ones. We can watch the displays on TV from all over the country and around the world depending on what time of year it is. Personally, I love to watch them on TV when they are set to music because then I do not hear the explosive sounds as much and can just enjoy the beauty.

Let me explain. When I was a child there would be fireworks displays every 4th of July in the town next to where I used to live. Our family would go to this park and my father and I would have to leave the rest of my family in the park. He would have to take me about four miles down the road. We would walk out on to a bridge to watch the fireworks from there. I have very sensitive hearing and even from far away my father had to put his hands over my ears when I had my hands over my ears already so that I could stand to watch the fireworks.

Approaching the 4th of July now and seeing ads for fireworks displays here and there, it brought those memories back to mind. But this time the Lord shared something else with me. He shared about our words and how they might affect other people. You see, fireworks in the sky are beautiful! Firework type words set off in the home, on the job, in the community, or published in newspapers can start fires, be very destructive if not just plain annoying.

What if we all as Christ Followers, even in the church, would practice this verse on a moment by moment, day by day routine?  No more complaining, angry words, name calling, arrogance and prideful speech.  I believe with all my heart that the home, community, country, and world might be affected for the better!

Prayer:

Is anyone else with me on this except You and Father, Lord? I know there are probably a lot.  In heaven it will be like this, but we need Your help to have it happen here and now!  Convict us, Holy Spirit, when the very thought of a damaging word might be spoken and replace it with Your speech, not ours.

We know this is Your will, so I pray in Jesus’ precious name!

Amen!
