Finishing the Race
The College Parenting Journey Series
2 Timothy 4:7: “I have fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith!”
Wow, what a year! We thought high school flew by…college took off like a rocket! Your student now has another year of education under their belt and one step closer to finishing their race. Their dedication, staying true to their faith, and all their hard work has paid off! How rewarding it is to see our students work towards their goals. It is going be awesome to see what God does next.
In just a few short weeks most underclassmen will be traveling. Some will go home, while others will take off on a summer mission trip, internship, or study abroad. We know that the summer months come with challenges that look very different than the school year. Hang in there, stay positive and supportive, and encourage your student to stay on track to complete their summer goals. If they are home, enjoy this time with them; if they are away, enjoy the simple moments of phone conversations and FaceTime. Don’t ever stop praying for them. Please know that we love your students, and we cannot wait to welcome them back to campus in August.
For our graduating parents, you did it! They did it! Together you have fought the good fight, finished the race, and hopefully together, grew in faith. We know for some of you this has been smooth sailing and for others there were a few bumps in the road. Either way, we know that when your student shows you their diploma, you will be proud. The diploma marks the beginning of a whole new journey with your student. One that crept up on you way too fast. It has been our prayer that your student is now equipped to go out into the world as a Champion for Christ! This next road in your parenting journey will be just as emotional as the others, one that will take love, patience, and understanding. As hard as it is, it’s now time to let them go out into the world and make a life for themselves. They now have wings to soar.
Whether you are hanging with us for a few more years, or you too are flying from LU, don’t forget that you are awesome, you are loved, and most importantly, you are loved by our heavenly Father. Keep fighting the good fight, finish the race that is ahead of you, and keep the faith. Please don’t ever forget that Liberty University loves its students, parents, and families. You are a part of our family forever.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please stay close to our students this summer. Please give them traveling mercies. Guide them in whatever their summer plans may be and bring them back to us in August, rested, refreshed and ready to start a new school year. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
