College Parenting Newsletter | May

This Month and Next
May 5 – Last day of classes; last day to withdraw from a class with a “W”.
May 7-12 – Final Exams – be sure your student checks the Exam Schedule when arranging dorm check-out and travel plans.
May 13 – Residence halls close at 12 p.m. Students wishing to remain on campus past the official closure of the residence halls must submit a Beyond Checkout request in the Res Life Portal. Be sure your student has reviewed the Move-Out procedures. Students who renewed their room for the next academic year cannot leave their belongings over the summer (for more information, see ResLife’s FAQs page). You may want to rent a storage unit; students often share storage units over the summer. Here is a Google Maps link to local storage units.
May 14-16 – LU Commencement 2026 – check here for the Commencement Schedule. Activities are Thursday through Saturday (Welcome Fair begins on Wednesday at 1 p.m.). Check the What to Expect at Commencement for helpful tips and information. See more Commencement information and links below!

By partnering with your student in prayer, you will give them one of the greatest supports they could hope for as they follow God’s call to be the adults that He equips them to be. Trust in the Lord to be faithful; your family will rise to the challenges. Be encouraged! We are here to journey alongside you, to pray with you, and, more valuable than that, God is with you!

May Tip of the Month:
As the semester draws to a close, students and their families, often feel a mix of relief, exhaustion, pressure, and uncertainty. Final exams, projects, transitions, and expectations can weigh heavily, not just on students, but on the parents who walk beside them in prayer, encouragement, and support.
During this season, hold fast to the truth that even when moments feel overwhelming or outcomes feel unclear, God’s goodness remains constant. Psalm 100:5 reminds us: “For the Lord is good and His love endures forever; His faithfulness continues through all generations.” God’s goodness is not dependent on grades, accomplishments, or smooth endings; it is steady, faithful, and unchanging. As you encourage your student through the finish line of the semester, trust that the same God who carried them through the challenges is the One who will continue to guide, provide, and be faithful in every next step.
CASAS Update | Professional Advising – New Name, Same Student Support!
Exciting News from CASAS (College of Applied Studies & Academic Success)

While our name is changing, our commitment to our residential students’ academic journeys remains the same. Professional Advisors will now be College Success Coaches. Each coach will continue to provide the same level of guidance and encouragement throughout students’ academic careers as they assist with academic goal setting, course registration, degree completion planning, and connection to resources.
