Biography

Dr. Katie Askren serves as core faculty in the Department of Counselor Education and Family Studies at Liberty University, teaching both residentially and online. She previously worked at a Christian Private Practice, in a prison, with clients addicted to opiates; she continues to supervise counselors working in Medication-Assisted Recovery. Likewise, she has worked in disaster relief for the victims of the 2005 Tsunami in Southeast Asia and the survivors of Hurricane Katrina for two years at the River Center shelter and FEMA trailer parks. Dr. Askren also lived at an orphanage for three years, teaching life skills to the indigenous people of Thailand, and led numerous short-term trips to countries including Mexico, El Salvador, Thailand, and Russia.
