CINE 201 (Intro to Screenwriting)

This is a methods course intended to provide instruction in the fundamentals of screenwriting.   Basic three-act structure, writing techniques, character development, and screenwriting formatting will be covered. Learn from industry professionals on how they approach screenwriting. This class may be used as part of the required CORE curriculum needed for students to apply and enter into the residential Center for Cinematic Arts cohort their Junior year.

CINE 330 (Micro-budget Filmmaking)

Students in the micro-budget filmmaking course (CINE 330) will learn how to effectively and efficiently budget and produce an independent film under $50,000. Veteran filmmakers understand that exploring and understanding the financial planning of a production budget is crucial to being a success. Students will interact with industry Christian filmmakers on topics like “Marketing to your audience” and “Script breakdown from a Director/Producer POV”,  with an end goal of understanding the different stages of feature independent filmmaking from pre-production all the way to distribution.

CINE 340 (Theology and Cinema)

CINE 340 explores the use of theology in cinema. As an introductory course, it seeks to answer the questions that many Christians face about movies as an artistic medium. Namely, “How should Christians view cinematic arts?” This course aims to analyze the influence of theology in movies, in order to help the student form a Biblical attitude towards creative expression. This course encourages investigative ways in which Christians can critically watch and create movies in order to positively influence culture.

None of these courses have prerequisites and are open to all majors/minors.
