Dr. Alexandra Reddy’s journey from Liberty University to Valedictorian of the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine Class of 2024 is a testament to the power of education, mentorship, and faith. Her success is deeply rooted in the guidance and support she received from Liberty’s Department of Biology and Chemistry.

Reddy didn’t initially set out to become a veterinarian. It wasn’t until her undergraduate studies at Liberty University, where she majored in zoology and pre-veterinary medicine as an Honors Program student, that she discovered her passion for helping animals. Her environmental science courses revealed that her interest lay not just in science, but in its impact on animals and the environment, prompting her to pursue veterinary medicine.

While at Liberty, Reddy co-founded the university’s first Pre-Veterinary Medicine Club, creating a supportive community for students with similar goals. Mentors like Dr. Kyle Harris and Dr. Davis McGuirt played a pivotal role in her development, helping her navigate her academic path and transition into veterinary school. Reddy’s dedication was recognized when she received the LU Department of Biology and Chemistry’s “Exceptional Student” award upon graduating in 2020. This accolade and her commitment to research set the stage for her future success.

Now, as Valedictorian of the Class of 2024 and recipient of the Richard B. Talbot Award for the highest GPA, Reddy is pursuing a five-year pathology residency and Ph.D. in Biomedical and Veterinary Sciences. She plans to contribute to academia and continue shaping the field by advancing One Health through veterinary pathology. Reddy’s journey is a testament to Liberty University’s role in her success: “I would never be where I am today in my career if it wasn’t for Liberty’s Department of Biology and Chemistry and its incredible professors who shaped me.”
