Worship Collective to join Mac Powell, Franklin Graham for Easter events this weekend

Members of the Liberty University Worship Collective will use their talents locally, nationally, and internationally as they embark on three different trips over Easter weekend.

On Thursday, 12 band members and David Nasser, Liberty’s senior vice president of spiritual development, will travel to Seaside, Fla., where the band will lead worship alongside Third Day’s Mac Powell and the worship team from Church at the Beach for the Good Friday Gathering service at the Rosemary Beach Owners Pavilion. The event will also serve as a benefit concert for those affected by Hurricane Michael last year.

On a global scale, 14 members will travel to Cúcuta, Colombia, to attend the Festival of Hope, a revival event hosted by Samaritan’s Purse and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. More than 35,000 people are expected to attend as Samaritan’s Purse CEO and President Franklin Graham will preach on God’s love and forgiveness. Many of the attendees will likely be Venezuelan refugees due to the close proximity to Venezuela’s border.

“Here are two countries that are broken and need help,” said Daniel James, director of the Liberty Worship Collective. “We get to go and bring the good news of the Gospel, and it’s exciting. It’s a chance to be the hands and feet of Christ.”

The band will lead worship and sing their entire set in Spanish. The collective’s single, “Victory,” was translated into Spanish for the first time for this event.

Locally, 12 members of the collective will perform an acoustic set at the annual Easter sunrise service at Natural Bridge State Park in Lexington, Va. The service is hosted by employees of the park. The collective will also lead a special Good Friday worship service on campus during Friday’s Convocation as students walk through the 14 stations of the cross, which follows the events leading up to Jesus’ crucifixion. They will also lead worship during Liberty Christian Academy’s Holy Week-centered Chapel on Thursday afternoon.

“We’re not only going to the nations but into our neighborhoods,” said Kevin Huguley, executive director of the Liberty Worship Collective. “Our team is effectively coming together in one weekend to serve with one common purpose: to lift high the name of Jesus. What better week to do that than Holy Week.”

The members of the collective who are not traveling will serve in local churches across the Lynchburg area over Easter weekend.

Created four years ago, the collective is made up of more than 60 Liberty students and production staff who lead worship each week during Convocation and Campus Community and travel around the country and the globe for special events.
