What Music Alumni are Saying

Joshua Nordland | Class of 2018

I knew I had to attend LU after experiencing convocation for the first time as a prospective student. Nothing compares to joining thousands of voices singing praise to God. Much has changed since I was a freshman, but the school’s commitment to God-centered education has only become more evident. As a bassoonist and student in the School of Music, I had the opportunity to serve in a wide variety of ensembles. All of the groups I participated in performed an impressive variety of repertoire and exposed me to music that I will continue to perform throughout my career.

The professors are highly knowledgeable and act as tremendous examples of professionalism. Their heart for serving God shines through in their teaching. The School of Music boasts some impressive facilities that are rewarding to play in and the facilities rival music schools across the country. I’m thankful I chose Liberty University.

B.M. in Woodwind Performance

Talitha A. | Class of 2022

Dr. Trombetta is quite certainly the best viola teacher I have ever had! His extensive knowledge of not only viola techniques and musicality, but also instrument making and music history, has been a unique and incredibly helpful experience. Throughout my time at Liberty, Dr. Trombetta has continuously showed me how he glorifies God through his teaching and performing. I can say with great confidence, that he has prepared me to go out on my own and continue learning and perfecting my craft, not only musically, but spiritually.

Ashley Dawson | Class of 2020

I can confidently say that studying voice in the LU School of Music was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I would not be the person and singer I am today without my lessons with my teacher, and I would not have known what a family of musicians looked like without the Liberty University Chamber Singers. I will forever be thankful for their dedication to excellence and support.

B.M. in Vocal Performance

Elizabeth Anderson | Class of 2020

Over the past four years, I have been poured into by extremely wise and talented professors as well as supported and encouraged by my peers both in the flute studio and in surrounding studios. Being surrounded by like-minded individuals who love the Lord, love music, and love our instrument has grown my passion for my musical studies as well as my passion for the Lord. From studio classes, to area recitals, and every lesson in between, I am so thankful for the instruction I received and for the opportunity to study there.

Even after college, I have a solid community of friendships and professional mentors and resources to assist in the years beyond. Studying there, you get so much more than musical studies, you get inspired to love Jesus, friendship, community, opportunities to grow, and wisdom in whatever the Lord has tasked you to do.

B.M. in Woodwind Performance

Tyler C. | Class of 2018

The instruction was the best I have ever received. The main focus through the teachings and process of the percussion & drum set area at Liberty was always pursuing God first, and perfecting my craft for His glory, not mine. I owe my life to the Lord, who used the instrument area and all the people in it to shape my future and livelihood.
